Abstract

The Lyng v. Northwest Indian Cemetery
Protective Association, also known as the G-O
Road was a landmark case taken to the Supreme
Court in the 1980’s. In short, the case
questioned if a road can be built on Native
American sacred lands; the court concluded that
the Free Exercise Clause does not prohibit the
Government from permitting or harvesting
timber production nor constructing a road
through the National Forest area.
