Abstract

"Historically, the southern Siskiyou mountains (portions of Blue Creek, Eightmile, Siskiyou and Dillon Planning Units as designated by the US Forest Service) has had a very real religious importance to Native Americans inhabiting this region of California. Several features of the Siskiyou mountains, including Doctor Rock, Chimney Rock, Peak 8 and others were
and are used for religious ceremonies. Native American medicine men have testified to the religious importance of the Total landscape, unimpaired by human destructiveness." Item #352
