Abstract

From the "traditional Indian" perspective, the Sacred High Country is the Center of the Universe. The traditional Indian ascends the sacred mountains in search of truth, knowledge, and spirit. The traditional Indian knows that the "real" answers in life do not come from books but from nature itself. The traditional Indian has always tried to maintain cosmological lifestyles predicated on a true spiritual basis. The roots of his religion are in the earth, and the power and essence of his religion is the Center of the Universe. For the local Native Americans this center is within the Sacred High Country. Both shamanism and sacred dances depend upon the High Country for continuation."
"The traditional Indian belief systems is not much different than the "traditional beliefs" of the American religious system if one would only take the time to examine the true basis of such beliefs."
